GK Resorts' flagship property at Jimbaran Bay, GENDING KEDIS, has been leading efforts to preserve the natural beauty of Bali, over the past two years. Sadly, the truth is that the ubiquitous use of plastic is destroying the natural habitat in this world renowned tourist island.
The resort's management has been active in bringing together neighbouring tourism players in regular "Gotong Royong" clean-up efforts along streets and rivers.
GK Resorts' Douglas Wallace is quoted as saying that unless urgent efforts are taken by communities and local authorities, then Bali will drown under a sea of plastic. This is aptly illustrated during and after the annual rainy season, when storm waters carry mountains of garbage and plastic down local creeks - as the waters subside the plastic clings to the river banks.
The creek adjoining GENDING KEDIS is cleaned up regularly by the resort's concerned staff, whose efforts contribute to preserving the indiginous birdlife, after which the resort is named. |
